It All Started When Israel Fired Back… Again!

From Honest Reporting – “Defending Israel from Media Bias”

OCTOBER 31, 2011 14:08  BY

Haven’t we been here before? Palestinian terrorists launch or attempt to launch rockets from Gaza on to Israeli towns and cities and Israel responds.

So who is ultimately responsible? And which side is engaged in aggressive acts and which is carrying out defensive measures? You’d think it was obvious.

But not to some of the media covering abarrage of Palestinian missiles that killed one Israeli, injured a number of others and brought terror to the residents of Israel’s south.

Indeed, HonestReporting’s new slideshow “Defending Israel Against Claims of Excessive Force” contains many examples of the kinds of reporting repeated below.

MORE BBC BIAS

The BBC News site reported:

Five Palestinian militants have been killed in a number of Israeli air strikes on the south of the Gaza Strip.

The violence is the most serious since a major prisoner exchange deal earlier this month between Israel and Hamas, the Islamist militant group that governs in Gaza.

Melanie Phillips is on the case:

No mention of the Palestinian rocket attack on Ashdod last Wednesday. No mention of the 35 rocket attacks on Israel during the past day, nor the Israeli killed in Ashkelon. Instead, the BBC has given the false impression on its website that the Israelis initiated the attacks — and the only casualties it reported were Palestinian.

Pivotal Moment for Israel

The month of September 2011 may well go down as one of the most pivotal moments in Israel’s modern history, as the entire Middle East is convulsing before our very eyes.

September was already earmarked as a key date on the regional calendar due to the looming diplomatic showdown over Palestinian statehood at the United Nations. The Palestinian Authority has refused to back down from its reckless unilateral push for a state along the pre-1967 lines, and thus decided to take a very dangerous path given the volatile political climate in the region. The PA’s official calls for mass marches on Israeli towns and checkpoints in support of this effort is already inviting chaos and bloodshed.

But then suddenly last week, Israel’s ambassadors in both Egypt and Turkey were unceremoniously chased from Cairo and Ankara within days of each other. Each nation is a regional power with long-standing security ties and shared concerns with Israel. Yet decades of prodigious efforts to forge close relations, often against the popular will of their peoples, may now be down the drain.

Only time will tell if this is indeed a rubicon moment for Israel, as the Palestinians sow the seeds of another intifada and strategic ties built up over many years with Egypt and Turkey now face the risk of being irreversibly severed. Even worse, the region could be slipping towards an unthinkable war.

Caroline B. Glick: The forgotten Christians of the East

[Note from G&L:  We hope you will read this whole article by Caroline Glick!  Indeed, it is unclear what the churches are thinking!

Ms. Glick notes, “Aside from Evangelical Protestants, most Western churches are similarly uninterested in defending the rights of their co-religionists in the Islamic world. Most mainline Protestant churches, from the Anglican Church and its US and international branches to the Methodists, Baptists, Mennonite and other churches have organized no sustained efforts to protect or defend the rights of Christians in the Muslim world.

“Instead, over the past decade these churches and their related international bodies have made repeated efforts to attack the only country in the Middle East in which the Christian population has increased in the past 60 years – Israel.”

Also…take note of the ‘switcheroo’ the Catholic Church has opted for!]

Caroline B. Glick: The forgotten Christians of the East.

It is unclear what either Western governments or Western churches think they are achieving by turning a blind eye to the persecution of Christians in the Muslim world.

http://www.JewishWorldReview.com | On Sunday night, Egyptian Copts staged what was supposed to be a peaceful vigil at Egypt’s state television headquarters in Cairo. The 1,000 Christians represented the ancient Christian community of some 8 million whose presence in Egypt predates the establishment of Islam by several centuries. They gathered in Cairo to protest the recent burning of two churches by Islamic mobs and the rapid escalation of state-supported violent attacks on Christians by Muslim groups since the overthrow of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak in February.

Turkey to hold military exercise on Syrian border. Assad threatens to destroy Tel Aviv if attacked

DEBKAfile Exclusive Report October 4, 2011, 5:03 PM (GMT+02:00)

War tensions between Turkey, NATO and Syria shot up again Tuesday, Oct. 4, with the announcement from Ankara that Turkey embarks Wednesday on a 10-day “mobilization” exercise in the southern province of Hatay along the Syrian border, through which arms are being funneled to Syrian protesters. Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan is expected on the same day to visit the 7,000 Syrians who have taken refuge in Hatay from President Bashar Assad’s troops.

DEBKAfile reported earlier Tuesday that Syrian President Bashar Assad has for three months staved off a military attack by Turkey or NATO for halting the exceptional brutality of his crackdown on protest by explicitly holding Greater Tel Aviv’s 1.2 million inhabitants under threat of missile retaliation.

Charles Krauthammer: Land for peace, yes — Why Abbas went to the U.N.

Charles Krauthammer: Land for peace, yes — Why Abbas went to the U.N..

While diplomatically inconvenient for the Western powers, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s attempt to get the United Nations to unilaterally declare a Palestinian state has elicited widespread sympathy. After all, what choice did he have? According to the accepted narrative, Middle East peace is made impossible by a hard-line Likud-led Israel that refuses to accept a Palestinian state and continues to build settlements.

It is remarkable how this gross inversion of the truth has become conventional wisdom. In fact, Benjamin Netanyahu brought his Likud-led coalition to open recognition of a Palestinian state, thereby creating Israel’s first national consensus for a two-state solution. He is also the only prime minister to agree to a settlement freeze — 10 months — something no Labor or Kadima government has ever done.

Hello from Gene & LaVada!

"The old corn house"Update from Gene & LaVada…

Seems like it’s been a very long time since we sent out an update.  Almost a year has gone by since Gene’s dreadful accident!  And, he is doing so well!  If you missed out on just what happened to him on that memorable day…November 19, 2010…you can click here and read the narrative!  There are some subsequent updates after that to fill you in.

We have, indeed, been blessed with all our needs met by Our Father in Heaven…family and friends always available…and, most of all, complete and total healing for Gene!!  Well, almost….he still has a stubborn little index finger on his left hand that refuses to cooperate around the neck of that old Gibson Dove guitar….so the other three fingers had to learn a new way to play the chords on all those songs!!  🙂  Gene also confides that he’s still “a little stiff-necked…but, the only thing about that is, now it shows!” He’s been a good sport through it all and is counting all his blessings!!

We are slowly getting back into the scene of our music ministry… Starting to book some dates on the calendar…so, if you or your church or group would like us to come and minister with our country flavored Good News Music, let us know!  We go anywhere we’re invited and sometimes where we’re not invited!! 🙂  We have some exciting things coming up… Speaking of being invited…the South Texas Gospel Music Association has invited me (LaVada) to serve on the Board.  This will be a fun and rewarding place to use some of my gifts!  We all had a great time at the last convention in San Marcos.  This is a wonderful organization providing great gospel music at monthly concerts in the south Texas region.

The very next thing on our calendar is a much anticipated trip back up to Colorado to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles (Succot), also known as Feast of Booths, with our friends at Bear Trax Ranch, October 13-20!  We are really looking forward to that!

Here’s what you will find in Deuteronomy 16:13-15 about this fall Feast…

Our succah at Bear Trax

“Community” Succah at Bear Trax

You shall celebrate the Feast of Booths seven days after you have gathered in from your threshing floor and your wine vat; and you shall rejoice in your feast, you and your son and your daughter and your male and female servants and the Levite and the stranger and the orphan and the widow who are in your towns.  Seven days you shall celebrate a feast to the LORD your God in the place which the LORD chooses, because the LORD your God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands, so that you will be altogether joyful.”

Our Father in Heaven, the Creator of the Universe, wants us to CELEBRATE, REJOICE, and BE BLESSED for eight solid days!!  How wonderful is that?!

Well, that’s not all of it, but we’ll get to that another day.

For those of you who have been receiving our newsletter for a long time, you most likely have noticed that we (1) have changed the way we send it out, and (2) we have added another , called Israel, World News and the Church.  You can “subscribe” to receive notification when we enter a new post. Or, you can just check the page any time you’re online.

And take a look at the items on the sidebar on the right side of the page….
  • we have “What in the World is Going On?”, which is a list of links to news articles/websites, etc., that we think you will find interesting and informative.
  • And, also, “Links we Like, Maybe You Will, Too!”  …These are links to some great biblical teaching websites.
  • Several new “Pages” with new videos!

So, pay us a visit at our main website, MenorahMusic.com, or our Ministry Blog Site, and keep in touch!!

There is a lot going on in the world, especially the Middle East, as it relates to Israel.  We receive, via the internet, news that doesn’t necessarily make the ‘nightly news channels’.  So, we wanted to share it!  Tell others about it and give them this link:  http://www.menorahmusic.com/?cat=9

I’d like to leave you with this …

From 1 John 5:1-4…

“Every one who believes that Jesus is the Christ is a child of God, and every one who loves the parent loves the child. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith. “

We trust and have faith that Our Abba, Father, in Heaven, will bless you and keep you, and make His face to shine upon you and give you His peace!  Shalom!

Keep praying for the peace of Jerusalem!

The Palestinian obsession

Jewish World Review Sept. 16, 2011 / 17 Elul, 5771

The Palestinian obsession

By Caroline Glick

By If nothing else, the Palestinians’ UN statehood gambit goes a long way towards revealing the deep-seated European and US pathologies that enable and prolong the Palestinian conflict with Israel.

In a nutshell, the Palestinian Authority — or Fatah — or PLO initiative of asking the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly to upgrade its status to that of a sovereign UN member state or a sovereign non-UN member state is an act of diplomatic aggression.

Eighteen years ago this week, on September 13, 1993, the PLO signed the Declaration of Principles with Israel on the White House lawn. There, the terror group committed itself to a peace process in which all disputes between Israel and the PLO — including Palestinian statehood — would be settled in the framework of bilateral negotiations.

The Palestinian Authority was established on the basis of this accord. The territory, money, arms and international legitimacy it has been given was due entirely to the PLO pledge to resolve the Palestinian conflict with Israel through bilateral negotiations.

By abandoning negotiations with Israel two years ago, and opting instead to achieve its nationalist aims outside the framework of a peace treaty with Israel, the Palestinians are destroying the diplomatic edifice on which the entire concept of a peace process is based. They are announcing that they have no intention of living at peace with Israel. Rather they intend to move ahead at Israel’s expense.

Presbyterians Set to Tangle Again over Israel Divestment

Presbyterians Set to Tangle Again over Israel Divestment

Alan Wisdom
September 16, 2011

A new confrontation looms in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) over proposals to divest from companies doing business with Israel. A PCUSA committee announced on September 12 its recommendation to the 2012 General Assembly that the denomination divest itself of any holdings in Caterpillar, Hewlett-Packard, and Motorola Solutions. The divestment would be a protest against the companies’ sales, respectively, of construction, computing, and communications equipment to the Israeli military. Israel was the only Middle Eastern nation targeted for potential divestment by the PCUSA Committee on Mission Responsibility Through Investment (MRTI).
