A few mornings ago, it occurred to me that almost everyone I run into is a bit anxious about the present and the future. And then I read this ‘quote for the day’…

From the pastor down the road…

“Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men. For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD. They run and prepare themselves without my fault: awake to help me, and behold… But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision.”

Psalms 59:2-4, 8

Here, and in many other Scriptures, David reveals an important aspect of prayer. Those who don’t understand this aspect of prayer may find it odd – even perhaps a contradiction – that David pleads for God to awake and help deliver him from the wicked; and then proclaims that God laughs at the wicked and shall have them in derision. How are we to understand this?

Well, I believe it is simply this: prayer is an act of faith. David knows Almighty God is going to be victorious over His enemies. He knows God will never leave him nor forsake him. He knows God knows his situation. He knows God knows these attacks of the wicked are unjust and they seek to destroy him without a righteous cause. Yet, he calls on God to help him.

You see, prayer is not informing God of anything. He is all-knowing (omniscient). Prayer is an acknowledgment of God’s power to save; as well as an act of faith and trust in God. Our telling God of the situation is not to let Him know what’s going on; but rather, we’re letting Him know we know He knows – and we trust Him for the victory.

For instance, “Father in Heaven, You see what is happening to us. You see the antichrist system taking hold upon the earth. You see the lies and propaganda; their election meddling; their scamdemics; their endless wars; their collapsing of our borders, economy and nation; their threats and intimidation; their perversion;  their murder, thievery and tyranny, etc.

“But You, oh Lord, who sits in the Heavens, laughs at the wicked. You will have all the evil doers in derision. You will watch over and deliver Your beloved, covenant children in Christ. You will give us wisdom and guide us into all truth. You are the One who delivers from evil; who protects Your people under the shadow of Your wings; who provides for His children; who always causes us to triumph and works all things together for our good.”

Therefore, I will, “… sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble. Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defense and the God of my mercy” (Psalms 59:16-17).

Let us not allow our hearts to fail for fear of the things we see coming upon the earth. Let us rather take courage and be full of faith, the Spirit and the Word. Let us be salt and light. Let us be proclaimers of truth. Let us be people of prayer. Our victory is in Jesus; and in Him alone our hope is found.

In HIS Love,
Pastor J.D. Link
