“He removeth kings, and setteth up kings.”
God’s Purposes Transcend Temporal Pursuits
Before I go into this paper, please understand that the underlying problems of America (and indeed of the whole world) are much deeper than what we imagine. Think of an iceberg! What we see, and hear, and experience, is like the top of the iceberg. It belongs to the realm of the temporal.
The top of the iceberg above the surface of the water and a little below the surface, is where the world’s population, their leaders, and the Kings of the Earth operate. Most leaders and voters do not think farther ahead than the next 4 to 8 years. The Kings of the Earth plan for the next 50 to 100 years and more; some of the plans being enacted today find their roots in the 1700’s. These plans are animated by the fallen nature, wisdom, will, purposes, strategies, and methods of man.
Below the surface level, is Satan’s domain. He also, has his own fallen nature, will, purposes, strategies, and methods. But his plans for the world date all the way back to Babel and are designed for the long run. Regardless, we all read the end of the Book and we know God wins!
The same cycles of peace, war, poverty, prosperity, famine, death, birth, joy and sorrow, that have plagued nations for centuries and millenniums continue unchanged. Solomon understood this and said: “The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9).
Even though Mr. Trump is our new President, thank God for that, the work he will do will only affect the top of the iceberg; the short term in the socio-economic and political arena. The Kings of the Earth are suffering a setback – they have had them before. As I mentioned in my first article they have been powerless and will continue to be powerless to solve the problems of the world. Especially those that are soon to engulf mankind. Why? Because man is fallen and his societal systems are flawed. But that is not the important thing. As you will read, the fact that God has given us Donald Trump has great implications for the purpose of God in the days ahead.
In the end, while God has surrendered complete authority so we can make choices, God has kept absolute final authority as to what happens. “My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure” (Isaiah 46:9-10).
But God was not waiting for Mr. Trump to be born. He did not say: “finally, Donald is born, now we can do some work.” God has a much greater purpose for humanity than to make its temporal and flawed socio-economic, financial, political, and religious systems a satisfactory way of life for mankind. God’s purpose for humanity is eternal. It transcends man’s focus on his personal temporal pursuits.

Back to the Issues at Hand in this Election.
Daniel 2:20-21 “Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the Name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are His: And He changeth the times and the seasons: He removeth kings, and setteth up kings”
In my article on the 2016 election titled “2016 U. S. Election: A Clear Choice for Christians”, I highlighted three things – ever so lightly; 1) the heart of the blind “Kings of the Earth” (Psalm 2:2-3), 2) the politicians who do their bidding, and 3) Satan; the source of it all.
In addition to these three entities, I now add a fourth: God and His purposes.
There is much to ponder over “He removeth kings, and setteth up kings.” One may think “well if that is what God wanted to begin with, it did not matter if we voted.” This appears to be a valid conclusion. But it fails to consider the dynamics between the Sovereignty of God, and the capacity that God has given man to make his own choices. There is an answer to this, but this is not the place to develop it. The fact remains that God gives us the capacity to make our own decisions; we are not puppets on a string. We elected Mr. Trump.
Mr. Trump clearly communicated that the Supreme Court Judges he has selected, will be the exact opposite of those Mrs. Clinton promised she would appoint. While hers call good evil, and evil good (Isaiah 5:20), Mr. Trump’s judges will work to overthrow laws which are already on the books but are against the intent of the Constitution and of the Bill of Rights, and the Word of God. A sister in the Lord just texted me “looking at the results, ideologically, morally, ethically, foundationally, geographically, and in the biblical base, Trump took back “middle America”, with citizens rejecting all the anti-God, immorality and corruption of the last 8 years.” I could not agree more.
If anything, this election has taught those who have eyes to see and ears to hear, and may not have known it, that:
- The press is the – paid for – personal propaganda machine of the elites through which they attempt to control the population the best they can. The internet is their worst enemy.
- Both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party have now been clearly shown to be two arms of the same body.
- The Kings of the Earth exert a very powerful influence over the political system of the USA. In fact, they control it to a large degree.
- The system is corrupt to an unimaginable depth.
If you did not know any of the above already, now you know. Welcome to the club.
Setting the Stage for Answers to “Why Trump?”
Firstly, the temporal. Let us briefly look at A) the nature of man, B) the times we are living in.
A. The nature of man:
God is pure light. Satan is total darkness. Man’s unredeemed nature, is a blend of the two with different shades of grey. A blend of self-centered good and evil. Unless man’s tendency to sin is kept in check by listening to his conscience, and obeying the higher moral law that God has given in the Bible, it has nowhere to go but worse. Shepherds with good intentions but unbiblical methods will lead the sheep down the wrong path. Shepherds with good intentions and biblical methods will attempt to lead the sheep toward a better path. It seems that President Trump and Vice President Pence will fit in the latter category. The future will tell.
B. The times we are living in:
Gone are the days of autonomous nations. Today, all nations are affected by what happens in the others. Gone are the days of geographically limited empires. Because of the fantastic advances in technology, the world has become very small and humanity has arrived at a global consciousness. For this reason and a few others, we are living in the culmination of the times on many fronts. The goals of leaders, then and now, was and still is, the same. It is to bring peace, safety, and prosperity to the land. Today, the Kings of the Earth have made these goals a global pursuit. But for this, they must control people and nations. Of course, to want to bring peace and safety is good in and of itself. But because man and his systems are inherently and irreversibly flawed, no leaders have succeeded in this enterprise and none of them ever will. God did not give us Mr. Trump to bring long lasting peace, safety and prosperity.
Secondly, let’s get a glimpse of the eternal; God’s greater purposes for humanity.
There are others, but I will highlight three of them below:
1) God wants lost humanity to know that He, the God of Israel is the one and only true God. Humanity will know “and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel” (Ezekiel 39:7). “They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of YHWH, as the waters cover the sea” (Isaiah 11:9).
2) God wants to make humanity recognize – the Jew first – that Yeshua/Jesus is the Savior of the world, the Messiah. “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” (Mark 16:15). “And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon Me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for Him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn” (Zechariah 12:9-10).
3) God will establish His kingdom on earth and show man how it is done. “And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more” (Isaiah 2:4). “And many people shall go and say, ‘come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem” (Isaiah 2:3).
God’s purpose for humanity, is far greater than the temporal politics of nations and anything that Donald Trump will ever be able to accomplish.
So, What Does God’s Purpose for Humanity Have to do With Mr. Trump and this Election?
Directly? Nothing. Indirectly? A little.
Think about this. God wants all of humanity to eventually look to Him. The same cycles of peace, war, poverty, prosperity, famine, death, birth, joy and sorrow, have continually plagued nations and empires for centuries and millenniums. In the end, for God to allow the world to go on as it has since the beginning of recorded history ad infinitum, would be senseless and contrary to the glorious eternal purposes He has for His creation. Until God takes the steps to put an end to man’s government, a few things must take place.
One of them is the fact that man, must come to the realization that he is not self-sufficient; that his best efforts to fulfill his utopian worldly hopes and dreams must fail. And fail, they will – big time. God waited six millenniums of recorded history for humanity to arrive at a global consciousness. Only now; when man is trying to solve the problems of the world can God show man that he can never fulfill his utopian ideals.
Another is that man is an eternal being and God wants to save his soul. God wants all of humanity to be saved. “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son; that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). To make the greatest impact on all of humanity at once, God had to wait until it came to its global consciousness. When all the systems come tumbling down, the world will recognize that it has gone away from God. Just as Israel of old, the burdens of hardship will cause people to seek God and repent. God is “patient towards us not wishing that any should perish but for all to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).
A Different Purpose than Making America Great Again
“Make America great again” is a terrific goal. But because we are living in the culmination of the times, I cannot conceive that God gave us Mr. Trump because He wants to restore America to its former glory. There are no more centuries to come. The Kingdom is around the corner. Rather God gave Mr. Trump to give us an extension of time. A large segment of the Church needs to prepare itself to “Prepare the Way of the Lord and to make His paths straight” (Isaiah 40:1-5). Just as the way was needed to be prepared for the Messiah’s first coming, the way needs to be prepared for His second coming. Much more to say on this.
In preparing a people who “keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Revelation 12:17), God will offer a sharp contrast between the wickedness of the world and the righteousness of those who follow Him during the coming days. “For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and His glory shall be seen upon thee” (Isaiah 60:2). God will bring conviction to hearts everywhere so they can repent. Much to say on this.
Under a Clinton presidency, judgment would have come sooner. With Mr. Trump, we are going to benefit from a short reprieve both nationally, and internationally as nations take time to assess the meaning of his victory. The length and type of this reprieve will depend on God and on what He will allow the Kings of the Earth to decide to do now that Trump is in office. There are several options. In any case, we know from the Bible that the world will eventually become very corrupt and very violent.
Increasing Evil to Convict the World Concerning Sin Righteousness and Judgment
The world needs to discover how very far it really is from God. In the last century, man’s leadership and its great worldly wisdom, resulted in almost two hundred million deaths through war and genocides. Despite two world wars and numerous others, humanity still did not cave in. We may begin to understand why God will allow evil to rise to a point never reached in centuries past; and this, on a global scale.
Think about this. To be saved, a person must first realize they are lost in sin. It can take a lot for one person to realize their sinful nature! It took a lot for me; what did it take for you? It takes even more for a family. It takes a lot more for a city. It takes a whole lot more for a nation. And for the whole world, well, it takes the tribulation. “…and there will be a time of distress such as never occurred since there was a nation” (Daniel 12:1). “For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever shall be” (Matthew 24:21). Why? “for when Thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness” (Isaiah 26:9).
In the days of Noah, God looked upon the earth and saw nothing but violence. This violence provoked God to act. “And God said unto Noah, the end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth” (Genesis 6:13). Today, we see violence increasing all over the world. Jesus said “as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man” (Luke 17:26).
The People of the Book
The God of Israel wants to be known by lost humanity as the true God. Satan wants to detour people’s eyes from YHWH. “Ye are My witnesses, saith the LORD, and My servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He: before Me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after Me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside Me there is no saviour.” (Isaiah 43:10-12).
It is Israel’s and the Church’s responsibility to witness to lost humanity about the God of Israel and His Messiah. Because we are in the final days before the second coming, much more was at stake in this election than just politics and economy. Satan wants to eradicate Israel, and take as many people to hell with him as possible. Satan wants to eradicate the western Christian civilization. As I wrote in my first article, Islam is Satan’s tool. For this reason, anti-Semitism and anti-Christianism are rising at an alarming rate globally. Satan is going all out to slow down God’s momentum toward his inevitable demise. Man’s strategies go hand in hand with Satan’s purposes. By giving us Mr. Trump, who is 100% for Israel, who has promised to be in support of the Church, and has promised to do the necessary to eliminate a free ride in our nations to potential Jihadists, God is giving us more time to prepare. But none of this will be a bed of roses.
Nevertheless, the world will soon fall under the seduction of antichrist. After all, he comes with peace (Daniel 8:25). In doing so, he will deceive the rulers and many people. This is the “peace and safety” that Paul spoke of in 1 Corinthians 5:3. But then, antichrist will give the word for global Jihad and all hell will break loose on earth; literally. It will begin in Jerusalem and continue for 1260 days (Daniel 12:4-17; Revelation 12:13-14). Scripture says: “Woe to the inhabitants of the earth for the devil has come down to you having great wrath, knowing that he has but a short time” (Revelation 12:12). More to say on this in other articles.
The Fig Tree Generation
During that time of tribulation, the Church will have the very best opportunity to demonstrate the wisdom, love, and grace of God to those who are perishing… to the Jew first. We are still under obligation to complete the unfulfilled mandate of Romans 11:11. The tribulation will be the very best opportunity for the Church to accomplish this and to bring glory to God. Not only in the Middle East (and Moslems need to get saved too), but also globally. Please understand that some very hard times will be soon coming to set the stage for the world’s acceptance of the antichrist and his short lived “peace and safety.”
These very hard times will be so bad that they will make pre-tribbers think “I thought we should have been up by now.” As a result, they will wake up to the reality that there is no pre-tribulation rapture. This satanic theology is one of the most pernicious lies from the devil to prevent Christians from preparing themselves and their families emotionally and spiritually, and to hinder the “preparing the way of the Lord.” Thank God, by giving us Mr. Trump, there will be more time for Christians to understand the times and seasons; to change their theology, and to be part of the remnant that God is preparing. It is during that time that “they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days” (Daniel 11:33).
We are the fig tree generation. The generation which will see God put an end to man’s government. God will bring the long-awaited peace and safety of His perfect government; “of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end” (Isaiah 9:7). That is the “new world order” I am looking forward to.
In the end, God has final authority on anything that happens. Both Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Trump were on Jesus’s mind when He was on that cross. He loves her and him as much as He loves you and me. His blood paid for their sins also, as well as the sins of the whole world. Glory be to God and His great grace! They both need our prayers for salvation; and Mr. Trump, for personal protection. God’s thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8). The coming times will be extremely hard, but in giving us Mr. Trump God has given the Church another opportunity for more time to prepare the way of the Lord and to understand why He is calling believers everywhere to “contend earnestly for the faith that was once given to the saints” (Jude 3).
